Verbs Review
- Review the meaning and use of the verbs on page 186 of the Textbook.
- Let's divide them into conjugation types.
- You should already know how to conjugate these verbs: делать, завтракать, играть, обедать, опаздывать, убирать, ужинать, слушать, отдыхать, принимать. They follow the normal -е-/-ё- conjugation pattern. Review this pattern on pp. 86-87 of the Textbook.
- The verb одеваться also follows the -е- conjugation pattern and it is reflexive. After you conjugate the verb, add the reflexive particle -сь after a vowel еnding, and the particle -ся after a consonant ending.
- The verb вставать follows the -ё- conjugation pattern. However, you have to remember that the stem of this verb is вста- and NOT встава-.
- The verb идти follows the -ё- conjugation pattern. It's different from other verbs of this type in that the infinitive ending is -ти, and not -ть.
- The verb ехать follows the -е- conjugation pattern. However, you have to remember that the stem of this verb is ед- and NOT еха-.
- Also recall that in the -е-/-ё- conjugation pattern when the stem ends in a consonant the first person singular and the third person plural endings have у instead of ю.
- The verb ложиться is reflexive and it follows the -и- conjugation pattern. Review this pattern on page 89 of the Textbook. Also recall that the 8 letter spelling rule needs to be applied in the first person singular and third person plural. Review this rule on page 411 of the Textbook.
- The verbs ездить and ходить follow the -и- conjugation pattern. These verbs are different from other verbs of this type in that in the first person singular the letter -д- changes to a -ж-. Be sure to apply the 8 letter spelling rule in the first person form.
- The verb смотреть follows the normal -и- conjugation pattern. The present tense stem is смотр-.
