Shchedrin, Simon F. "Kamennoostrovsky Palace". 1803

Notes: Kamennoostrovsky Palace Viewed from Stroganov Embankment across the Bolshaya Nevka Like Venice, St. Petersburg was a favorite site for view painters. With its palaces gleaming along the river, it presented a pictorial challenge which, if successfully met, provided the painter with a very appealing source of revenue. Shchedrin made a specialty of St. Petersburg's views, and this painting of the great Kamennoostrovsky Palace lit by the sun is among his finest examples.
