In this exquisitely composed and colored river scene, one feels the spirit of Soroka's mentor, Alexei Venetsianov. Soroka's understanding of light, derived from the teachings and examples of Venetsianov, produced a canvas which virtually exhales the late afternoon air of a windless summer day.
