Malevich, K. S. "At the Harvest (Marfa and Vanka)". 1928 - 1932

Notes: At the Harvest (Marfa and Vanka). The adult female figure of Marfa closely resembles that of "Boy" of 1928-1932 (see ImageBase). These pictures, which exemplify Malevich's peasant themes of the late 1920s and early 1930s, addressed the overwhelming famine that swept Russia at that time. Malevich intended their color and decorative style to recall icon painting and peasant art, sources well suited to their subject.
