Malevich, K. S. "Girl (on the White Field)". 1928 - 1932

Notes: Girl (on the White Field). Like Malevich's "Prototype of a New Image" and "Suprematism, Female Figure" (see ImageBase), "Girl (on the White Field)" features highly schematized figures that are clearly related to his Suprematist works, as the title itself implies. Perhaps these figures fail to convey the tragic emptiness of his bearded and isolated peasants of the same period (see "A Complex Presentiment" and "Two Male Figures" in this ImageBase for comparison), yet they testify to Malevich's continued interest in aesthetic experimentation. It is likely Malevich was attempting to continue his aesthetic experiments and at the same time pay homage to this group of people. It was a personal struggle of great poignancy set against a national struggle with life and death consequences.
