One of a cycle of paintings that treat historical and revolutionary themes, Evseij Evseevich Moiseenko's "Cherry Tree" (1969) re-examines the beliefs and loyalties of the young revolutionaries who rest after the heat of the battle. The composition is deceptively simple and upon closer examination, the work is fraught with underlying tensions.
