Riazhsky, G. G. "Chuvash Teacher". 1932

Notes: Chuvash Teacher. G.G. Riazhsky's easel paintings such as "Chuvash Teacher" (1932) illustrate his attempt to present modern themes within a traditional framework. The artist's work also shows the influence of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (AKhRR) with whom he was involved. The group promoted propagandist "proletariat art" using themes such as "power," "strength," "technology," and "labor." Those themes were supported by the government, which considered them crucial components of the Soviet ideology.
