Russian Art
Serebryakova, Z. E.
"Bathhouse". 1913
Notes: Bathhouse.
Though closely involved with the World of Art throughout her career, Zinaida Serebryakova was more concerned with depicting contemporary life. Most members of the World of Art, by contrast, focused on an images of an idyllic world free from the problems of modern society. Both Serebryakova's "Peasants" (1919) and "Bathhouse" (1913) eschew this Romanticizing and retrospective tendency while also fulfilling the group's belief in the primacy of beauty.
