Though not the sort of archaizing landscape which provided the backdrop for many of Somov's 'rendezvous,' this freely painted, beautiful scene incorporates the rainbow, an element which gives the picture a mystical quality. Ultimately, it is the light, color, and shadow of the setting that interest the painter.
