Rozanova, O. V. "Airplanes Above the City". 1916

Notes: Airplanes above the City, illustration for "War-Carving" by O. Rozanova, text by A. Kruchenykh, SPb., Publishers. Olga Rozanova's non-objective collages, the product of her partnership with her husband, Kruchenykh, form a medley of color images and words. "Airplanes above the City" (1916) is one of the illustrations from their series entitled "Universal War," in which Rozanova and Kruchenykh implemented his theory of "transrationalism," a process whereby they liberated words from their conventional meanings. In some cases, she supplied the words and he the collage images.
